There's no money in progress There's no profit in change The whole world would burn tonight if we could make a dollar off the flames Once upon a time We sold you a dream That you were climbing a mountain and not a goddamn pyramid scheme It's all a work It's all a scam and it's coming down fast so get in while you can Drowning in the sea as the rising tide lifts You're either dead in the water or you're in on the grift Belief will only restrain you Conviction only bleeds As long as you get what you want who gives a fuck about what they need? No time for consequence The end's approaching fast So get yourself an angle and get the fucking cash It's all a work It's all a scam and it's coming down fast so get in while you can Drowning in the sea as the rising tide lifts You're either dead in the water or you're in on the grift Cons on every corner watch the atrophy with glee They say they'll cure the sickness but they're cheering the disease And so it goes away because some asshole made a name (solo: "Algorithm Error" by J. Gironimi) It's all a work It's all a scam and it's coming down fast so get in while you can Drowning in the sea as the rising tide lifts You're either dead in the water or you're in on the grift The grifted age

Let me see the bodies praying over the pyre A two shot of the mourners dodging incoming fire Let me hear the objections washed away in the flood If we want to do the numbers then we have to see some blood Just keep beating the drum They won't know they're marching til the damage is done Can't you hear the screams? See the fire dancing on the screen? If they weren't watching before wait until we give them a war Through their tired lives it's not a friend they need With all the hurt and pain they're gonna want an enemy Sometimes our interests align We want the money and they want to fall in line Can't you hear the screams? See the fire dancing on the screen? If they weren't watching before wait until we give them a war We just tell them they're right that sense of panic is only a trick of the light (solo: "The Ticker Never Sleeps" by J. Gironimi) I think the time has arrived I think it's time to provide If they weren't watching before Wait until we give a war Feel it in the air It pays to keep them scared It doesn't have to be right It's just a trick of the light

You'll get nothing and like it You'll get nothing and won't ask for more You'll be dragged by your bootstraps and you'll suffer cause I suffered before First they came for the poor and I said "Thank you!" so they'd go for the sick And when they come for me I'll simply thank them for the boot to lick Kill me baby, I've been waiting to die I want to feel your hands snuffing out my life I know that you don't mean it it's the law of supply and I'm collateral damage for the ultimate right I love it Let's see some cruelty Let's see some atrocity But just enough to make us feel complete in our own superiority And if I end up bleeding I'll be praying I can bleed some more I just want you notice that it's you I'm bleeding for Kill me baby, I've been waiting to die I want to feel your hands snuffing out my life I know that you don't mean it it's the law of supply and I'm collateral damage for the ultimate right One's got a billion The other has a dime and the one that's eating table scraps has taken what's mine Kill me baby Kill me tonight I want to give my life Just to prove you right (solo: "But I LIKE My Insurance" by J. Gironimi) Kill me baby, I've been waiting to die I want to feel your hands snuffing out my life I know that you don't mean it it's the law of supply and I'm collateral damage for the ultimate right One's got a billion The other has a dime and the one that's eating table scraps has taken what's mine Kill me baby Kill me tonight I want to give my life Just to prove you right

I've got a secret that I'm dying to say I've got a longing and it will not go away I feel it deep in my bones and through my fevered hands Ripping through my life and taking everything it can Gotta feed the machine Baptized into bondage by the blood of my dreams I feel it haunting me wherever I go I hear it whisper in my ear and say "we've got to have more" It won't be quiet til I'm turning the screws Because for me to get a win then someone else has to lose Without you, I am nothing Please don't make me choose Between what I know is right and what you want me to do This flesh is weak and it will lose every time There are no pyramids for paupers and I want to build mine So take me in you arms and lay me down Help me keep the fire from burning out Hold me in your hands and keep me still If you can't ease the pain Then nothing will Just another fix Just one more buy Just give me something in the till to stop the screaming inside There is no logic here Nothing to counter Nothing to fear There is no hate There is no malice Only destiny I have a hunger and I have to feed So take me in you arms and lay me down Help me keep the fire from burning out Hold me in your hands and keep me still If you can't ease the pain Then nothing will And for a second I feel the shame and the reason for the panic seems so far away And for a moment I think the end is coming then the profits whisper in my ear "Without us, you are nothing" So take me in you arms and lay me down Help me keep the fire from burning out Hold me in your hands and keep me still If you can't ease the pain Then nothing will

about

In the process of promoting NO GODS, ONLY MONSTERS, two things happened to lead us here:

1. I remastered the early All Hallow's Evil albums
2. I spent a lot of time on social media

There was a solid decade in which I did not listen to any of the pre-2006 All Hallow's Evil albums, which allowed them to become something different in my mind. They were made in a much uglier time for me and I was a much uglier person too. So I didn't think about them or that time very much until one day, spurred by a couple of conversations I had, I dug out an old hard drive and listened to them. Though a lot of the lyrics make me cringe all the way to the deepest pit of my being, there was a certain energy and fire to even the shittiest sounding recording. There's something about cobbling together really angry music on equipment that was never meant to deal with it that adds a little magic to the proceedings.

In the process of trying to make those albums sound presentable without ruining what made them special, I found that I really liked a lot of the material. Somewhat paradoxically, this was because I could both hear it for what it was--the scared rantings of an awkward kid with an uncertain future--and because I remembered what they sounded like in my head.

The idea for THE GRIFTED AGE came to me while I was playing SHOVEL KNIGHT on my Switch. SHOVEL KNIGHT is most assuredly not a grift and is in fact a tremendous value and one of my favorite games ever. It's also a tribute to 8-bit platformers in the way you remember them, rather than the way that they were. Playing it made me wonder if I could do something like that for the old All Hallow's Evil sound. But could I get angry enough to do it?

That brings me to social media. I dove back into social media pretty hard while promoting NO GODS, ONLY MONSTERS, the All Hallow's Evil album I put out in 2019. It was worth it, being that NO GODS became the most popular album of the All Hallow's Evil "Bandcamp Era" (not to be confused with the previous "Mp3.Com" and "MySpace" eras), but it occasionally felt like drinking poison for tips. When I think back on the internet I used to love, I think back to maybe 1999-2000, right when the first dot com bubble was about to burst. No one had really figured out how to make money on the internet so it was not yet choked to death by algorithms. It was just a bunch of people having a real dumb time in their school's computer lab or at home after the family went to sleep.

Now everyone knows how to make money on the internet: grift. With wildly irresponsible claims put on the same level and given the same heft as the most sober statement of fact, there's a lot of money in telling people what they want to hear. And so when it was time to get angry, I just went to Facebook and followed a few links some older family members were passing around. And here we are!

Thus I present to you THE GRIFTED AGE, a streamlined vision of what All Hallow's Evil sounded like in my head all those years ago, but inspired by our current state of constant grift. A small scream into a void where algorithms make more money in a day than most of us will ever see in a lifetime. Let the party begin!

about

All Hallow's Evil Groton, Connecticut

All Hallow's Evil embodies the synthesis of medication and man, as the man behind All Hallow's Evil is mostly medication. Rumors say that Jay Gironimi has actually been dead for 5 years and this is just gas escaping the body.
